Sayonara, Sayonara, Sayonara

As the man who used to do the Sunday night foreign film on Japanese television used to say. What was his name?!? I can't remember, but I was astonished when watching the quite outstanding 薔薇の葬列 (Bara no Soretsu - A Funeral Procession of Roses - by Toshio Matsumoto in 1969 ) that he'd turned up in that as well with his catchphrase...

(Nagaharu Yodogawa! But didn't he have a nickname of some sort? There's a photo and a couple of clips here)

But this goodbye isn't to do with my departure elsewhere. I was intending not to post anything at all, but yesterday a rumour was confirmed. That being, Come Down And Meet The Folks will be no more from next Sunday's final session with Chineseburn. It's not impossible it might survive in some monthly fashion or similar in the future, but that certainly won't be at The Fiddler's Elbow.

There's some history of CDAMTF here. I've spent many an afternoon over the years here and I've made some wonderful friends, listened to some outstanding (and less than so at times!) musical performances. It's pretty much been my one regular event of the week and has helped me through some very bleak periods as much as it has also had me buy hundreds of pints of Guinness and talk a lot of rubbish. I shall miss it immensely. A small part of London's social fabric will be gone by my return.
